Tyvek® prevents construction parts from corrosion in time by keeping humidity from the construction. It is designed to increase the durability, energy eficacy and comfort of the constructs exposed to heavy rain, cold and humidity. In addition it helps preserving energy up to 30% by blocking heated/cooled air inside the building. Tyvek®, by preventing sunlight entering the building with reflective products like Enercor™ yields active isolation.
DuPont™ Tyvek® breathing water isolation covers are used in order to protect buildings and living things in the buildings from climate effects and condensation. DuPont™ Tyvek® water isolation covers support environment protection by increasing energy eficacy with the method of controling heat, air and humidity movements around the building.
In order to reach the desired comfort conditions, air flow, humidity movents and heat exchanges should be examined. Regarding the heat exchange, besides conduction, convection and radiation should be considered.
DuPont™ Tyvek®, which is designed to serve in the conditions above as long as the life of a building, in tile and shingle roofs, waterside mansion siding, industrial metal roofs and as an emerging new type cladding wall systems it is insatiable.
Applications
The aim of the ventilation under the water isolation covers is preventing condensation between between the roof and the isolation material. The negative effects of the ventilation between the roof and the isolation material can be listed as:
- Reducing the isolation function
- Heat leak from the building through the attic.
- The presence of dirt, dust or pests in the attic
- External humidity risk
DuPont™ Tyvek® breathing water isolation covers have low steam diffusion resistance. DuPont™ Tyvek® does not require ventilation belov to release humidity. Preventing air leakage is a huge gain for energy eficacy. DuPont, recommends all the overlap points to be taped regarding the energy conservation. In conventinally ventilated cold roofs, the energy loss caused by the ventilation has a 25% ratio in the total loss. By means of DuPont™ Tyvek® ventilation-free system this loss will be overcome.
The condensation problem in the roofs built by conventional methods, is attemtep to be solved by some ventilation details. But it is proven that, this method causes 30% more energy loss, condensation increase in the building and extra costs for ventilation.
Tyvek®, obtains a benefit both from energy and initial investment by eneableing ventliation free roof construction.
The heat isolation in this type of roofs is on the scalenous level and the isolation applied is rigid or semi-rigid. The ideal way is to carry on the isolation through the scalenous. So the roof would be in a 'hot' environment and would be used as a living space. According the regulations, the isolation may also be applied on, between or under the scalenous. Regarding the recent need for heat isolation, the combination of these methods is appropriate. In hot roof applications, DuPont™ Tyvek® breathing water isolation cover used under the roof cover (tile or shingle cover) preserves 30 % more energy by blocking hot air in winter and cool air in summer.
Hot roof application
In this type of roof, the isolation is applied on the joist level and the gap between the heat isolation and water isolation is cold so it can't be used as a living space.Mainly the isolation material is placed on or between the joists. In the old type cold roofs ventilation is needed against the condensation problem in the roof. But this solution causes cold air entrance to the roof. The cold air coming from outside, increases the energy cost by infiltrating the fiberglass or rock wool laid on the roof floor. Since the ventilation is constant the loss goes on.
Ventilation is not needed for condensation problem in the roofs covered with DuPont™ Tyvek® steam permeable water isolation cover. Thanks to this, energy saving with an hotter roof and a perfect water isolation is obtained. Beside all these, since the humidity balance is succedded, fungus and mould formations are prevented.
DuPont™ Tyvek®, 'Breathing water isolation covers' are among the insatiable applications of shingle applications. Especially in mechanically attached shingle applications, roofs covered with Tyvek® yield, energy efficacy beside perfect water isolation.
With Tyvek® beside the water isolation, the blocking of hot air in winter and cold air in summer, energy saving up to 30% is succedded.
In metal roofs, the humidity condensing under the metal plate causes corrosion. The temperature difference between day and night also causes risks for roof elements. The dropping temperature in the night time, increases the risk of condensation under the metal roof plates and the day after, when the temperature goes up, the humidity goes into the vapor state and goes down to the building.
DuPont™ Tyvek® against Condensation
The performance of trapeze metal roofs may be upgraded with the application of DuPont™ Tyvek® water isolation covers. DuPont™ Tyvek® enables the vapor release and so the building breathes. DuPont™ Tyvek® also helps the isolation layer to be dry by its impermeable form. And also the vapor blockers and balancers to be laid under the isolation help minimizing the inside air loss they also block the humidity to form condensation.
DuPont™Tyvek® Metal
DuPont™ Tyvek® can be described as drainage cover for metal roofs. DuPont™ Tyvek® Metal; is the combination of DuPont™ Tyvek® breathing roof cover (DuPont™ Tyvek® Supro Plus) and 8mm deep fibreglass pieces. Under the titanium, zinc, stainless steel and copper metal roof covers, it is used as a seperator. Fibreglass pieces supply the needed support for metal plates and also forms the gap adequate for condensation drainage. DuPont™ Tyvek® Metal would also eliminate, sound like rain drops by enabling movement between layers.
Tyvek® VCL SD2 Air Leak Barrier
DuPont™ Tyvek® VCL SD2 is a system to reduce convective heat loss and to control the air flow in and out of the building. The aim is to form a barrier to the air flow in the living space. This also applies to seperation walls and sides of the middle floors.
DuPont™ Tyvek® VCL SD2 is especially designed to be a barrier to air loss but it also helps controlling vapor transfer in any system. The overall tranparency of the system is controlled by DuPont™ Tyvek® VCL SD2's balance between in and out vapor resistance.
Tyvek® VCL SD2 behaves just like a vapor balancer. The Sd value between 2 and 4 metres gives the ability to transfer more vapor and by not blocking the vapor completely, condensation is also controlled.
DuPont™ Airguard® Reflective Vapor Blocker
The aim of DuPont™ AirGuard® on roofs and sides is preventing heat loss by convection.
Especially in industrial buildings and living spaces where temperature difference and the production of vapor is great, DuPont™ AirGuard® blocks all the vapor and by reflection it preserves energy up to 30%.
The thermal resistance obtained by the reflective aluminum covered surface, increases the energy efficacy off the building. DuPont™ AirGuard® supplies an additional 0.67 m2 K/W heat resistance coefficient by protecting the isolation material from humidity and air ventilation.
Metal Roof Brochure
DuPont™ Tyvek® vapor permeable water isolation covers are chosen frequently for primarily wood carrier, metal or concrete or brick based wall and side applications. These applications may be listed as;
- Before the wear of the building is completed, it protects the construction from rain water.
- It forms a second protection layer for the buildings since most of the wears do not work as a barrier properly. It protects the building and the isolation material from the effects of water and wind humidity.
- It transfers vapor and humidity from the building.
- In the same time with the form of a water resistant barrier, it helps heat loss by means of the air ventilation. This is important regarding the heat isolation performance requirements of the construction regulations.
These items define the basic functions of a breathing water isolation cover. DuPont™ Tyvek® would obtain a perfect endurance meeting these requirements.
Breathing water isolation cover DuPont™ Tyvek® is adventageous especially in ventilated side dressing systems. One of the most important reasons of energy loss in ventilated side dressing systems is the ventilation gap keeping the isolation material cold in winter and hot in summer. This unwanted consequence causes the isolation material to lose its efficacy up to 50%.
DuPont™ Tyvek® always keeps the isolation material dry and with its vapor permeable form, solves the heat energy loss problem.. Thus it prolongs the life of the building.
Tyvek® breathing water isolation covers, protects isolation material by enabling the humidity to condense outside the building. Yapıyı bir zarf gibi kaplayan Tyvek®, which covers the building like an envelope, forms a shield against humidity. So it guaranties the service performance as long as the building stands.
The conventional wooden constructions forms a skeleton which conducts all the weight to the foundation. The dressing doesn't carry any weight but it has to stand against the wind. Also it is used to protect the building from the weather effects. Even if the vapor permeable and humidity resistant wood material is used, the outer material contraplak and oriented strand board (OSB). Breathing water isolation cover is attached to the outer cover in order to form a protection layer.
DuPont™ Tyvek®, protects the wooden constructs.
In wood and metal conveyored walls, before the conventional wall material is used, fiberglass and rock wool are used as the isolation material.
This filling material is good for heat isolation, sound isolation and installation ease. Beside these workmenship, long life and production simplicity are other advantages.
But regarding the reliability of the building in this sandwich system DuPont™ Tyvek® water isolation cover has to be used and the systems has to be protected against vapor like a package. In this system, Tyvek® VCL steam balancer cover is used inside and on the outside above the isolation material any of the Tyvek® breathing cover is used.
Vapor Control - Vapor Diffusion
The OSB layer is used for wind blocking in wood and metal conveyored wall constructions. This layer is attached to the side as a standart procedure. In general contraplak or OSB is used, but the include adhasives and they do not transfer vapor. Performance requirements like Thermal control and condensation control Termal are met but, this depends on the existence of vapor balancers and blockers (Tyvek® VCL ve DuPont™ AirGuard®). The workmenship of Tyvek VCL and AirGuard is important because the joining of this layer determines the efficacy of vapor transfer by convection.
The vapor diffusion on the cold side of the building is as important as the control in the hot side. The material in the hot side of the building must have a better vapor resistance than the material in the cold side. 5:1 ratio is recommended. This is also known as the '5 times rule'. To block the vapor it is essential to use a vapor resistant membrane. This is the foundation of breathing wall.
