SIKAFLOOR FLOOR OVERLAYS

The condition of the Industrial or Commercial building floors, is a key point for the activities to be performed successfully on them. That's why the process of optimal floor preperation, maintenance and also remaking requires care and expertiseMain material for industrial floors are concrete, cement or special alum. This is economical and highly adaptable.

Some of the important requirements:

  1. Satisfying mechanical endurance need,
  2. Impermeability for water and other liquid, endurance and in some occasions chemical resistance,
  3. Satisfying the need for, dustless environment, good cleanability, hygenic environment,
  4. Slip protection on wet floors,
  5. Antistatic floor,
  6. Elasticity and leak bridging,
  7. And decorative

In most cases, more than one requirement has to be met. With floor overlay SIKAFLOOR®, we present a wide range of products which are tailor made, verstile and effective products. This system match the needs economically and reliably when the use of the buildings are altered, in new buildings and building maintenance projects.

Surface Preperation and Sub-Surface Specifications:

Overlay systems must fit to the surface to be covered. For this reason the surface must be analysed carefully. You'll find here a summary of industrial building surfaces.

1- Concrete or Cement Alum
Concrete or cement alums are monolitic and for adhesion they are sprayed with sand. The average adhesion force should be 1,5 N/mm2. The humidity amount of concrete must not get over 4%. The compression endurance of alum must be suitable for potential load, damaged areas must be fixed and heavy duty filth must be cropped from the greasy areas.

2- Unhydrit Alums
Unhydrit Alums are highly sensitive for humidity and if they stay wet they lose their form mostly. 1,5 N/mm² average adhesion force can be reached after a long time with an abresive wheel or with sanding. The highest value allowed for concrete humidity before the overlay is 0,3%. The surface to be overlayed must be covered and isolated against humidity.

3- Magnesit Alums
Magnesit Alums (e.g. containing wood fiber) are made of organic material and they become water proof by means of oils or wax. By sanding they are made ready to be laid. The average adhesion force should be 1,5 N/mm². The humidity amount of concrete must not get over 6%. The compression endurance of alum must be suitable for potential load, oil, wax layers and damaged areas must be fixed. The surface to be overlayed must be covered and isolated; the temperature difference between building floors must not be much.

4- Casted Asphalt Alums
Casted asphalt alums are thermoplastic material therefore they may deform when exposed to heavy load or high temperature changes. Casted asphalt alums quality must be suitable for expected mechanical load; wheel traces point out to inadequate load capacity. Casted asphalt alums is only available for in-door applications because of the requirement for constant temperature.

5- Ceramic and Tiles
Ceramic and tiles, have to be considered as difficult surfaces. The tiles has to be adhered tightly to the daub in order to avoid humidity. The tiles with inaduquate adhesion should come out and the gap should be leveled. The surface preperation is made by sanding and the average of adhesion force should be 1,5 N/mm². The joining point should be cleaned with sand.

6- Old Overlays
The old overlays must be coated after a careful inspection. The adhesion should be checked and the fragile point must be eliminated. The surface of the old overlay has to be matted and the surface is forced to be ragged. The efficiancy of covering an old overlay is determined by testing it first on some areas.

Overlay Types

1- Sealants
In most cases, the adaptation of concrete and cement alum surfaces is easy and economical with the help of the sealant. Pore covering, thin layered sealants may be applied with brushes, rolls and guns comfortably with a thickness of 0,3mm. They increase the corrosion resistance for concrete and cement. They prevent dusting and enables the color or colorless design. According to the type of the sealant, they increase the resistance to liquids and chemicals. SIKAFLOOR® Sealants are special epoxy resin systems combining high performance and ease of application.

2- Rigid Overlays

Film thickness range 0,5 – 5 mm

Thick overlays are needed for high mechanical tensions. These overlays, while supplying high endurance and liquid impermeability according to the type, with the use of appropriate application methods they are also good for creating neat, slide proof, patterned and decorative surfaces. The epoxy resin adhesive overlay material explained here are distinct with non-complex applications and their toughness. The desired layer thickness is accomplished by rolls easily and economically with its self spreading nature.

3- Synthetic Resin Alums
As an extension to rigid epoxy resin overlay series, with their 8 mm. thickness the self supported epoxy alums are suitable for maximum mechanical tensions. They are used especially on heavy traffic and wet roads and on fixing of cropped concrete surfaces. SIKAFLOOR® overlays, are made of quartz aggregated high filled epoxy resin adhesives. The firmness of these floor overlays is unbreakable under heavy load, impacts and corrosion.

4 – Crack Bridging Overlays
When crack birdging is needed in addition to mechanical and chemical endurance, polyurethane based elastic SIKAFLOOR® system, supplies long lasting floor surfaces ( on new buildings, maintenance processes and even casted and compressed asphalt ). Elastic SIKAFLOOR® systems, have an economical application on plain or slide proof surfaces with some having special chemical endurance.

5 – Antistatic Overlays
Conductive overlays are needed in places where electrostatic charge has to be prevented. This is necessary especially in conditions in which explosive gas, steam and dust could appear, and also in plants electronically controlled machines are used. SIKAFLOOR® systems are distinguished in this high performance epoxy reisn adhesive using market by having easy application procedures. Some systems have extremely high chemical and mechanical endurance.

6 – Overlay for Preserving Underground Water
It is essential to prevent contamination when storing material dangerous for underground water ways and reservoirs. SIKAFLOOR® overlays are developed in order to prevent secondary contamination. These products are also suitable for factories producing, using or trading material dangerous for water. In addition to our conventional, elasticly enriched polyurethane systems, our solvent free epoxy system, guaranties protection against the chemical which the ordinary solutions can not resist.

7 – Decorative Particle Spread Overlays
In addition to high requirements, the floor overlays are expected to be decorative. That's why color and design is more important nowadays. Besides all SIKAFLOOR® floor overlays having colorful designs, decorative particle spread overlays makes it possible to create quartz mixed two techniques.
